Research!America Upcoming Events

See our website for what's ahead and our recent events.

  • Our March 16 2010 National Forum gathered 200 stakeholders and national leaders in health research. The discussions, moderated by Judy Woodruff of PBS' "NewsHour" and Michael Kinsley of The Atlantic, addressed research priorities and speeding the time from discovery to treatment.

Ongoing Initiatives

  • In June, Research!America and our partners will invite candidates for Congress in 2010 to participate in Your Candidates-Your Health. This award-winning voter education initiative gives stakeholders and all Americans information about candidates' views on health and research, in an easy-to-search online resource. Candidates will be invited as each state's primary occurs.
  • Our New Voices for Research is building a community of early-career scientists and empowering them to turn their passion for research into advocacy.
  • In global health advocacy, we are exploring new ways to promote global health R&D messages and poll results with legislators, media and other audiences nationwide.

Policy Updates and Advocacy Alerts

  • Research!America alerts to our advocacy network are currently urging Congress to support strong funding in appropriations for our federal research agencies in Fiscal Year 2011.
  • We led the effort, mobilized our leadership and grassroots, and boldly supported NIH funding in the economic stimulus bill. Our interactive map tracks how the resulting funding is distributed.
  • In 2009, through action alerts to our grassroots network, we generated more than 11,000 messages to Congress.

Publications and Poll Data

  • In our recent Research Enterprise poll, American said they are confident in our system to review new medicines and medical devices, but 41% say it takes too long to approve a new drug; 93% say it is important for the U.S. to be a global leader in research; and 76% say they are likely to participate in clinical studies, but just 6% say their doctor has ever suggested they do so.

Research!America in the News

  • Recent media coverage of our leaders and messages includes MSNBC.com, Nature, The Scientist online, Science magazine's ScienceInsider blog, and radio stations around the country.
