Contact your Representative now to oppose an amendment that undermines the peer review process and threatens scientific integrity. The House of Representatives will begin consideration of the FY 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill tomorrow, and Representative Darrell Issa (CA) is expected to offer an amendment to rescind funding for three currently funded, peer-reviewed grants that that focus on HIV/AIDS prevention. He is citing these grants as an example of wasteful spending.
In a June 2009 Research!America poll, 50% of Americans say that scientists should have the most influence on how government funds for research to improve health are spent in comparison to 11% who say elected officials should.
Let your representative know that you want him or her to vote NO on the Issa amendment to defund NIH grants. Take action now!
