Thomas G. Burish is provost of the University of Notre Dame. A clinical psychologist, Burish received his AB from Notre Dame, and his MA and PhD from the University of Kansas. Before assuming his position at Notre Dame in 2005, Burish served as President of Washington and Lee University from 2002-2005, and as Provost at Vanderbilt University from 1992-2002.

A distinguished researcher in the area of behavioral oncology, Burish has authored or co-authored four books, including Coping with Chronic Disease:  Research and Applications, and Cancer, Nutrition, and Eating Behavior: A Biobehavioral Perspective. He has also contributed to more than 16 other books and has written numerous journal articles. Burish is a past chair of the American Cancer Society's national board of directors and has been a member of the board since 1991. He sits on numerous scientific advisory committees and editorial boards. Among other honors, he was awarded the American Cancer Society's Volunteer Leadership Award.
