Clinical research is essential to advances in health.

In clinical research, volunteers choose to participate to test the effectiveness of certain treatments, drugs or devices in improving the care of patients and understanding and preventing disease.

Ensuring that discoveries made through basic research are translated into better health care requires greater support for clinical research in both the public and private sectors. This includes incentives to attract young investigators into the field and establishing standards for clinical research.

Increased public participation in clinical research is also necessary. Polls commissioned by Research!America show that few Americans have participated in clinical research (15%), but a majority (63%) are willing to do so.
