Construction of the University
of Alaska Fairbanks Biosciences Facility is expected to produce $174 million in direct economic output,
$81 million in labor income, and an average annual employment of 385 workers.
In FY 2002, the state of Alaska
invested $15.6 million for research at University of
Alaska while grants and contracts brought in another $95.4 million-a
600% return on the state's investment. Each dollar invested in the
University in 2000 generated an additional
$1.66 from other sources and resulted in
$4.11 of spending in the state.
