Highlights from local economic impact studies
The Association
of American Medical Colleges reports that the member medical schools and
teaching hospitals in the state had a combined economic impact of $6.5 billion and a total employment impact of 40,300 in 2005.
According to the Wisconsin
Technology Council, $883 million
was spent on academic research and
development in 2003. This supported nearly 31,800 jobs in the state.
The University
Research Park houses 114
companies, the majority of which were founded based on research from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The park contributes more than $680
million to the state economy each year and supports 9,100 jobs in the state.
The University of Wisconsin
System contributes $9.5 billion
to the state economy and supports 150,000
state jobs.
In 2002, the University of
Wisconsin-Madison contributed $4.7
billion to the region and supported 75,000
jobs in the state.
