Highlights from local economic impact studies
United for Medical Research's 2011 study, An Economic Engine, shows that in 2010, NIH invested $123,000,000 in Kansas, producing 2,442 new jobs.
According to the most recent BioEnterprise Midwest Healthcare Venture report, over $14,000,000 was invested in Kansan biotechnology companies in 2010.
The Kansas Bioscience Initiative, supported by a $500 million investment, is expected to generate 20,000 bioscience jobs, 23,000 indirect jobs, and increase federal research spending by $1 million in the state.
The FY 2007 research expenditures for the ten major research stakeholders involved in the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute topped $531 million.
In FY 2000, the three Kansas research universities spent $335.2 million on research, development, and training. This spending supported more than 13,600 jobs in the state.
