Highlights from local economic impact studies

United for Medical Research's 2011 study, An Economic Engine, shows that in 2010, NIH invested $54,000,000 in Montana, producing 1,236 new jobs.

Montana State University was awarded a record $109,500,000 in 2010-the funds went to research in immunity and treatment responses to infectious disease.

The life sciences cluster in Montana consisted of nearly 20,000 employees in 445 establishments in 2000.

The Montana University System consists of 8 universities that together employ 6,800 people and spend more than $480 million to supports the Montana economy. The system also attracts $300 million from out-of-state sources.

According to a report from BIO and Battelle, other economic achievements include creation of The Montana Bioscience Alliance, the opening of two laboratory incubators, and development of a venture-capital program through the Montana Associated Technology Roundtables.
