Highlights from local economic impact studies

United for Medical Research's 2011 study, An Economic Engine, shows that in 2010, NIH invested $20,000,000 in Nevada, producing 967 new jobs.

The largest bioscience subsector in Nevada is research, testing and laboratories, which supports 3.365 jobs in the state. Between 2004-2010, bioscience venture capital invested $35,000,000 in Nevada, mostly in biological and agricultural sciences.

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) had an economic impact of $611.3 million in 1999-2000. The University directly employed 5,700 people and induced nearly 10,800 jobs in the local economy.

According to a report from BIO and Battelle, Nevada legislation included $5.4 million for a Biotechnology and Genomics Research Facility at UNR and $10.15 million for start-up research expenditures at the Nevada Cancer Institute.
