Internship Description
This paid, non-exempt position reports to the Vice President/Communications and the Media Relations Specialist. Must be available 40 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and for a minimum of 12 weeks starting in May 2008 (start and end dates flexible).
The intern will assist Research!America in maintaining and building a favorable profile with its member organizations, policy makers, opinion leaders, donors, news media, and other stakeholders in the nation's medical and health research enterprise:
- Proofread, fact-check, edit and write newsletter articles, press materials, and communications to members
- Assist with basic Web site content updates; write copy and select images
- Help maintain communications results reports and ongoing analysis of media coverage
- Update electronic photo and logo libraries; manage quotes library
- Attend selected events on Capitol Hill and elsewhere in the DC area; take notes and photos for newsletter
- Work as assigned with external graphic designer, printer, PR firm to coordinate projects
- Provide administrative, project management, PowerPoint presentation and research services support
- Conduct other tasks as assigned
Ideal candidates have a strong academic background, excellent writing and editing skills, and an interest in medical and health research and public policy-related issues. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) is required; experience with Web content management systems is a plus.
Eligibility
College students (undergraduate
rising senior), graduate students or recent graduates with a communications,
journalism, publications or related degree or degree program.
Compensation
Research!America offers a
competitive salary commensurate with experience.
