Dr. Subra Suresh has been a visionary leader for the scientific community during his tenure at the National Science Foundation (NSF), fostering a spirit of international collaboration among research stakeholders and demonstrating a strong commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists.  He has contributed in so many ways to the economic and societal benefits of research and continues to be a vocal proponent of elevating the importance of science and discovery in public policy. As NSF director, he spearheaded programs that encourage scientists to develop business plans to commercialize NSF-funded research and expanded opportunities for women in science and engineering careers.  His contributions as a panelist at Research!America's National Health Research Forum have been invaluable particularly as federal health agencies confront funding challenges. We are confident that Dr. Suresh will continue to affect positive change inside and outside the scientific realm as President of Carnegie Mellon University.
