Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on Legislation to Repeal Medical Device Tax

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

It is meaningful that one of the first bills introduced in 2017 is both bipartisan and meant to fuel faster medical progress, an objective that richly merits its standing as a top national priority. From diagnostics that are the lynchpin of quality healthcare, to pacemakers that help defeat cardiovascular disease, to prosthetics that restore mobility to wounded warriors, medical devices reflect scientific ingenuity at its very best. By repealing the 2.3% medical device excise tax, the Protect Medical Innovation Act would help ignite more investments in medical technologies, and ultimately save more lives. Representatives Erik Paulsen (R-MN) and Ron Kind (D-WI) are long-standing champions of American innovation and better health, and we salute their leadership on this important effort.
