Research!America Supports Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Research!America supports expanding federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. The majority of Americans also support embryonic stem cell research, as evidenced in state and national public opinion polling commissioned by Research!America and others. Most Americans accept the view, widely held among scientists, that embryonic stem cell research has the potential to yield important new treatments and cures for some of the most debilitating and deadly diseases.

Twice and in a strongly bipartisan fashion, Congress has passed legislation to broaden the current federal policy on embryonic stem cell research. Using two of just three vetoes he has exercised in six years, President Bush chose to override the will of Congress and the American people. We urge Congress to continue to represent their constituents and fight to expand federally funded embryonic stem cell research.
