Research!America Names Mona Floyd Senior Director of Special Projects
WASHINGTON—January 14, 2008—Former Capitol Hill senior staffer Mona K. Floyd, JD, has joined Research!America as senior director of special projects. She will be responsible for developing selected programs and policy outreach initiatives. Research!America is the nation's largest not-for-profit public education and advocacy alliance working to make research to improve health a higher national priority.
Prior to joining Research!America, Floyd served as director of health policy and senior legislative assistant for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX). She was responsible for writing floor and committee statements and drafting legislation. She also planned and coordinated policy briefings and forums for Congresswoman Jackson Lee's office. In health policy, her areas of expertise include HIV-AIDS and obesity.
Floyd stated, "My legislative and policy experience working in the Office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was valuable in many ways and is certain to be a great resource for me in my new role with Research!America. I am very excited about the new challenges and opportunities to make positive strides in medical and health research."
Prior to joining the office of Congresswoman Jackson Lee, Floyd served as a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellow and as a human resources specialist for the Pentagon Air Force Personnel at the Department of Defense.
Floyd graduated from Southwestern University School of Law, where she completed her degree in two years. She attended both Wellesley College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County for her undergraduate work. Through a George Washington Fellowship in Philosophy and Social Policy, she will receive a master's degree in Public Policy with a concentration in health policy in May 2008.
