New York Times "Economic Scene" columnist, David Leonhardt, who has served as moderator for Research!America's Garfield Economic Impact Award ceremony for the past three years, has been named Washington Bureau Chief of The New York Times. He will begin his appointment after Labor Day.
As moderator of Research!America's Garfield Award ceremony, Leonhardt has raised thought provoking questions for panelists and awardees about the economic value of medical and health research.
A 2011 Pulitzer Prize commentary winner for his "Economic Scene" column, Leonhardt has been writing about economics for The Times since 2000. Prior to joining The Times he worked for Business Week magazine in Chicago and New York, and for the metro desk of The Washington Post. A New York native, Leonhardt studied applied mathematics at Yale University and was the top editor of the Yale Daily News.
