Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on New Executive Order Restricting Travel

Thursday, March 9, 2017

The new executive order restricting travel for individuals from six countries could negatively impact the ability of scientists to collaborate and conduct cutting-edge research globally. If we hope to find cures for deadly and disabling diseases that erode the health and economic stability of all nations, we must not construct barriers that discourage scientists and stymie partnerships across borders and instead, cultivate an environment that will speed the way they unravel complex scientific issues. We urge the Administration to rescind the order and allow researchers, research and innovation to thrive at the level of scientific opportunity.

Without continued support for health research, many of the most promising young scientists, their ideas and a myriad of potentially life-changing scientific breakthroughs will vanish into oblivion.
