Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee Hearing on the FY16 NIH Budget

Thursday, April 30, 2015

In his testimony today to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Director Dr. Francis Collins outlined important measures to assure the maximum return on every dollar entrusted to NIH. These strategic initiatives will save lives, reduce health disparities and help safeguard our nation's unrivaled capacity to drive medical progress. There is no question that American taxpayers expect accountability, nor any question that Americans want and expect science to deliver on its promise -- sooner rather than later. Leaders of our science-based federal agencies are rightly entrusted with these twin public mandates.

We salute Dr. Collins' leadership at a time of extraordinary possibilities in the life sciences.
