Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on Senate Passage of FY19 Labor-HHS Conference Report

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

Senate passage of the FY19 Labor-HHS conference report is a significant step in ensuring that funding increases for the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will move forward without delay.  As we continue to address major health threats through innovative medical, public health and health services research, it is imperative to accelerate the critical work of federal health agencies committed to protecting the health and security of Americans.  The House must take immediate action to approve and send the Labor-HHS conference report to the president’s desk.  We commend Senate Appropriations Committee leadership, including Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL), Ranking Member Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Subcommittee Chair Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), for their dedication to improving our quality of life and strengthening our global competitiveness in research and innovation.
