August recess is upon us, but advocacy work does not take a break. Make your voice heard when members of Congress are back in their home districts.

How to Urge Your Lawmakers to Withdraw OMB’s Proposed Rule

1. Get up to speed on OMB’s proposed rule by reading our primer or visiting our landing page.

• You can also familiarize yourself with our survey data from earlier this year showing overwhelming public support for medical research and U.S. leadership in science and technology.

2. Find the district office phone number for your member of Congress.

• Find your member of Congress at https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member.
  • Click on the “contact” hyperlink, which will direct you to the contact page of their official website.
  • On the contact page of their website, find the phone number for the district office nearest to you.

3. Call and leave a message asking your member of Congress to withdraw the proposed OMB rule using this phone script.

The Office of Management and Budget is finalizing a proposed rule that would completely change the way research grants are chosen without giving the public a sense of what this means for medical research. Even though the comment period for the proposed rule was only 45 days, nearly 500,000 public comments were submitted, overwhelmingly against the rule. Congress and the public deserve more input and information on this proposed rule. Please ask (name of member of Congress) to call the White House and ask them to withdraw the rule.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for your other members of Congress.
