Administration Calls for “Pocket Rescission” That Takes Funds from AHRQ
Arlington, Va. – Research!America opposes the proposed cut to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) through a rescission.
Americans are frustrated by the way the health system works, and AHRQ is the only federal agency charged with conducting research to help Americans benefit from the health care they need. AHRQ-supported research has taken on such deadly threats as bloodstream infections in newborns, cutting the rates of these infections in neonatal intensive care units by 58% in just one year.
Rather than building on that legacy, the announced cut would leave appropriated resources on the table that could have been deployed to make our health system work better.
We ask Congress to exercise its authority to ensure appropriated dollars are used according to the law and in the best interests of Americans. And we urge the administration to use AHRQ funding to take on a larger role in meeting Americans’ need not just for medical progress, but for a health care system that translates that progress into the right care, whether you live in Nebraska or New York.
