Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on Budget Caps
It is terrific news that Leader McConnell is engaging Speaker Pelosi and President Trump in a collaborative process to address outdated and out of touch budget caps. So much is at stake: our nation’s defense and the people, values and strengths that make our nation one worth defending.
Our nation’s leadership in science and technology is emblematic. Both the defense and non-defense (NDD) caps place our strategic strengths in jeopardy, threatening sustained economic growth, medical progress, our nation’s response to bio, cyber and other forms of terrorism, and a host of other strategic priorities. Americans need and deserve a budget attuned to the present, not tethered to the past. We are grateful that by working on a bipartisan basis to raise the caps, federal leaders are firmly on the path to take us there.
