Statement on Dr. Bertagnolli’s Confirmation Hearing as NIH Director

Today, President Biden’s nominee for National Institutes of Health director, Monica Bertagnolli, MD, sat for a confirmation hearing before the Senate HELP Committee.  “We are heartened that the Senate HELP Committee met today to consider the nomination of Dr. Monica Bertagnolli, a highly committed, qualified, and effective leader, to serve as the next Director of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Bertagnolli is the right leader at the right time to advance the Institute’s profoundly important research mission.

“NIH-supported and conducted research is part of a multi-sector race against time: Robust patient engagement and public and private sector expertise, effort, and investment propel indelible medical and public health progress that builds upon itself to fight deadly and debilitating health threats. We urge the HELP Committee to advance and the full Senate to confirm this nomination as soon as possible and to continue to champion the U.S. research & development ecosystem of which NIH is part,“ said Mary Woolley, President and CEO of Research!America.
