Advocacy Opportunity – Student Visas

The Department of Homeland Security issued a Proposed Rulemaking on September 25, 2020 to establish a fixed term for student visas of no more than four years. Read a summary here.

In some cases, students may have to reapply for their visas every two years, depending on their country of origin. The American Immigration Council (AIC) reports that the rule has over 19,000 comments at this time.

The President’s Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration and NAFSA has put together a summary with instructions on how to submit comments here.

Customize your comment by describing how the rule will be harmful to science, the impact on you or someone you know, and how international students have been an asset to our nation.

Thank you for taking the time to comment!
