Scientists, patients, advocates, young investigators, and research leaders will converge on the nation’s capital on Thursday, September 13 to elevate the importance of medical research investments to policymakers.
Research!America is among the many supporters of 2018’s Rally for Medical Research, an annual Hill day established in 2013. The Rally ’s purpose is to encourage our nation’s policymakers to make National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding a national priority and raise awareness about the importance of continued investment in medical research that leads to “more progress, more hope and more lives saved.”
There was an unprecedented boost in funding for NIH, as well as significant increases for other federal health agencies in FY18. R ally advocates will thank members of Congress for the boost and explain the critical need for continued robust funding in FY19.
On the day before the Rally, individuals will participate in an afternoon training session, followed by an evening reception to celebrate medical research at the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room G50. On the day of the Rally, participants will attend a kickoff breakfast at the Watergate Hotel’s Moretti Ballroom before starting a full day of meetings with House and Senate offices.
Research!America and many other groups will continue promoting the event in the days leading up to it by posting messages on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #RallyMedRes. The Rally’s website has numerous resources including a flyer, style guide, and participation guidelines.
